On 2nd June 2025, the UK Government unveiled its most comprehensive defence strategy since the Cold War, committing to a major increase in defence spending and setting out a roadmap to modernise military capability and infrastructure. The announcement from the UK Government includes the building of 12 new submarines as well as a pledge to raise defence spending to 2.5% by 2027-28, aiming for 3% by the 2030s, during the next parliament.
